EIU student to compete at national speech tournament

Good luck to Eastern Illinois University’s Austin Mejdrich, who will compete in the National Forensics Association National Tournament.  Competition begins Friday at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.  Austin will compete in both Impromptu Speaking and After Dinner Speaking.  Eastern’s Bethany Oxford also qualified for the national tournament, but will not be making the trip to compete.

WEIU News Watch a winner in state contest

Congratulations to WEIU-TV News Watch staff members who took home three awards at last weekend’s Illinois News Broadcasters Association state convention.  News Watch tied for first place for Best College TV Newscast in the state of Illinois.  EIU student Braden Harp placed second for outstanding videography and Savanna Tomei placed third for outstanding T.V. reporting.   About 90 students from around the state entered the various categories for radio and TV news.

Graduate student wins top paper award at regional conference

Amanda Feder, a second-year graduate student in Communication Studies from Arlington Heights (Buffalo Grove HS), won the top student paper award in the Ethics/Sex/Health Communication Caucus at last week’s Central States Communication Association convention in Minneapolis. Amanda’s paper was entitled “Fighting Business with Business: The Construction of the Vulnerable and Exploited Third World Woman by the Not-For-Sale Campaign.”  The Central States Communication Association includes colleges and universities from 13 midwestern states.
