A graduate student in Communication Studies has been named as one of Eastern Illinois University’s top graduate students for 2013. Jessica McDonald has been selected for the 2013 class of Hamand Society Scholars. The Hamand Society represents exceptional graduate academic achievement and scholarship or service achievements that extend beyond the local community. Jessica is one of only 3 students selected for the Hamand Society of Scholars in 2013, out of 1,400 graduate students currently enrolled at the university. Graduate candidates inducted into the Hamand Society offer significant potential for advancing the future of their discipline. The Hamand Society is named in memory of Dr. Lavern Hamand, who was the first Dean of the Graduate School at Eastern. Hamand Society members receive a cash award and receive a special medallion that’s worn during commencement ceremonies.
